Tableware jewellery - the new collection by Rialheim for @home

Rialheim will make its fourth appearance in selected @home stores countrywide this December. In celebration of our relationship which started in 2015 we have collaborated with the team at @home to bring you a collection of unique tableware jewellery to bring homegrown sophistication to your festive table this season.

As a proud local supplier to @home, we wanted to celebrate the handmade element that occurs in each product by highlighting it even more accentuating each items individuality and allowing the natural power of ceramics to flow more freely. To achieve this we have developed a tableware accessories collection with three different looks.

Scratched matte black with bronze rim Each item was individually scratched by our Artisans to ensure the uniqueness of each item. It is our aim that this freeness in making resonates with the @home end user. At the same time we wanted the bronze and matte black to flow naturally into each other. This colour combination is dedicated to our African culture and heritage.

Scratched Sky Grey with bronze rim This colour combination also features the handcrafted texture, but what we love about the new Sky Grey, featuring in our new collection Evolution , is the combination of matte black and white that naturally fuse together in the kiln highlighting the handmade texture on each piece.

The Big Bang white and black with an exposed nude clay rim The Big Bang glazing technique provides each item with a unique look and allowed our glazing team to play with white and matte black. We combined it with the exposed nude terracotta to balance the strong glazing technique. Each piece in this collection is truly one-of-a-kind.

“Our journey with Rialheim has been a truly inspirational one. Not only is it amazing to see a young local talented brand turn into an international success story but their passion for developing and inspiring people is closely aligned with @home’s core values. We are very proud to be associated with such amazing people.”

-      Lelani Adamson, @home Buying Manager.

As Rialheim celebrates six years of #DreamBelieveFly we felt it relevant to celebrate the people whose skilful hands create the uniqueness in each product. This collection is a true reflection of each artisan’s talent and the magic of African Clay. We salute the team members who have grown from a gardener to one of our best artisans in the studio today, the person who started as a packer in our studio to heading up our dispatch department today, just to name a few amazing journeys. As a company, we believe in all of their dreams and are extremely proud of the development so far and excited to see this evolve in further as their skills develop.

Rialheim regularly talks about the pivotal role @home played in our journey as a company. It’s this partnership that has allowed more people access to our products and story by featuring us in their stores. It’s a partnership that has allowed Rialheim to simply move beyond an artisanal brand while opening doors that we were only dreaming of. This has enabled us to tackle big projects, both locally and internationally.

The new Rialheim collection will be available in these @home stores from 6 December:

Cape Town: V&A Waterfront, Cavendish Square, Century City, Tygervalley, V&A Breakwater Centre

Durban: Gateway

Johannesburg: Design Quarter, Mall of Africa, Melrose Arch, Sandton

The Rialheim Pig Bowl in Splatter White styled by Little Succulent Co.

Little Succulent Co. started a year ago when my hobby of growing and planting succulents turned in to a small business making succulent arrangements from my home with the help from my three little girls.

Why succulents?

1.) They are super trendy.

2.) They are low maintenance and easy to care for.

3.) They look good all year round.

4.) Whether you are a green thumb or a novice gardener succulents are one of the easiest plants to care for.

5.) There are many different varieties which make for lovely succulent arrangements.

Top tips for looking after your succulents

1.) It is important that Succulents are planted in the correct soil to ensure their survival and healthy growth. The perfect combination of organic soil, pumice and sand making it well draining like Succulents need.

2.) Succulents require lots of drainage as they don’t like too much water or they may rot.

3.) Succulents are easy pleased house guests and survive indoors thanks to their special adaptations; fleshy leaves, thick stems and enlarged roots that allow plants to hoard water.

4.) When it comes to watering ‘Less is always more’. Supply your plant with a generous amount of water once a fortnight. I always recommend to gently touch the soil and if you feel it is dry then it needs a generous shower of water. If it is still moist from it’s last water. Check it again in a couple of days.

5.) Succulents love lots of sunshine to ensure they remain healthy and their colour vibrant. Succulents can be kept indoors but they require a well lit position. It’s encouraged that they are taken outdoors on sunny days.

Bespoke Succulent planters have such impact and wow factor and they make for the perfect centrepiece indoors and outdoors.
